"Sisters Helping Sisters"

Every 15 seconds a women is battered. 

 Two to four million woman are abused each year and 4,000 of them die.

Every 45 seconds someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. 

 

Our Sisters’ House (OSH) is a not-for-profit agency that began its state-licensed operation in January of 1995, and has became noted for providing safety, support and culturally relevant services for at-risk, out-of-home girls, domestic violence services to families and youth, and providing legal and community advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

 OSH is committed to providing supportive services to women
and families.  Currently we are engaged in the following
programs:

 

 

 

Domestic Violence is a problem of epidemic proportions in
our country and community. Nearly one-third of American
women (31 percent) report being physically or sexually
abused by their husband or boyfriend at some point in
their lives, according to a 1998 commonwealth fund survey.

Woman are more likely to be killed by their intimate
partners than men.  On average, more than three
woman are murdered by their husbands or
boyfriends in this country every day.

In 2000, 1,247 woman were killed by an intimated partner.
The same year, 440 men were killed by an intimate
partner, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
